I’m not sure if you realize, but in 2006, more than one Billion cell phones were shipped worldwide. That’s with a “B”. This is about 3 million handsets per day. Certainly not all of them go to first-time users, so millions of people simply ditch their current cell phone in the garbage when they get the new ones. Imagine the environmental impact. So, it’s nice to know that there are companies out there that will allow you to make a few bucks on something that would have ended up in the dumpster otherwise. CellForCash will take your mobile, pay you, refurbish it and then either sell it for a profit in poorer nations (think south of the border, and below) or give it away to non-profit organizations. From the site:
A number of phones are designated as 911 emergency phones and donated to shelters and charities, while phones of lesser value are recycled and the components used to make new phones.
