There are probably more iPod docks in the world than there are iPods. So the fact that there’s another dock on the market isn’t surprising. Yet this one looks rather nice. The Xi jukebox was created specifically for housing the iPod in a full scale 1950’s inspired jukebox.

The jukebox contains the traditional numbered buttons, some nice speakers(Mk7 Twin channel amplifier, 150w per channel, 2 x tweeter 2 x mid range and 1 x 12 twin cone bass speaker), an LCD display screen for viewing the videos on your iPod and a remote control.

Each jukebox is hand built to order and also features LED lights throughout that can be changed depending on your preferences.

The price? Close to $11,000.

Kyosho dNaNo RC Cars (Images courtesy dNaNoshop.com)
By Andrew Liszewski

Remember back in the day when small remote controlled automobiles could only drive forward and turn in reverse? Yeah, thankfully those days are long gone. The dNaNo series, from Japanese RC toy company Kyosho, are 1:43 scale miniature marvels of engineering. The automobiles are only about 4 inches long but they’re incredibly detailed and even feature fully proportional steering. On top of that, they can be outfitted with a small gyro device that’ll automatically sense sliding or slipping when cornering and automatically reduce the speed or counter steer depending on the situation. The controller can even be synced to your PC via USB allowing you to upload lap times and other performance data to the dNaNo server, and compare your times to others.

Here’s the kicker though. Since the dNaNo cars aren’t officially available in the U.S. just yet, they’ve to be imported through the dNaNoshop.com website. So the automobiles, which include everything from a Subaru STi to a Ferrari Enzo, each cost $239.95. And that’s without a battery pack or controller. The 2.4 GHz Starter Pack which includes a battery, charger and wireless controller is another $155.95. I think for the time being I’ll stick with the Bit Char-Gs I’ve got buried in a drawer somewhere.

iDesign SongView (Image courtesy Brookstone)By Andrew Liszewski

The iPod alarm clock market is pretty crowded these days, but once in a while you stumble across a design that manages to spice things up. Case in point, the iDesign SongView. Its most obvious and noticeable feature is a 1.3 inch scrolling pixel display around the base which rotates between the date and time as well as the current song, artist, playlist and album if you happen to be listening to a song from your iPod. This grants you to see what’s playing (or what time it is) even if you’re across the room.

The SongView (oh, now I get it!) comes with a remote for controlling the volume, skipping tracks as well as various alarm clock functions, and it also includes the necessary line out and line in jacks for connecting it to external speakers or hooking up a non-iPod MP3 player. And it’s currently available from Brookstone for $99.99.

Romain Jerome Day & Night Watch (Image courtesy Romain Jerome)
By Andrew Liszewski

While Romain Jerome isn’t exactly the first company that springs to mind when you think of luxury watches, they’ve made a name for themselves with their Titanic DNA watch that includes salvaged materials from the infamous luxury liner. Apparently the watches sold quite well, and they seemed to have inspired Romain Jerome to stick with the ‘gimmick’ approach when it comes to their designs. How else would you explain the Day & Night watch which doesn’t have any hands on the face, and is only able to tell you if it’s… well… day or night. And it’s not like the company is trying to keep the fact that the watch can’t tell time a secret.

World First – An exceptional timepiece that does not indicate the time!

With no display for the hours, minutes or seconds the Day&Night offers a new way of measuring time, splitting the universe of time into two fundamentally opposing sections: day versus night.

A new interpretation of Time based around two Tourbillons operating sequentially. The Day Tourbillon operates during the day, defining the wearer’s period of activity, and stops after twelve hours, handing over to the Night Tourbillon dedicated to man’s own private sphere.

It kind of reminds me of P.T. Barnum’s ‘Fiji Mermaid’. A genuine fake! Anyways, apparently the Day & Night watch was an extremely limited edition of just 9 pieces that instantly sold out, although they each had a price tag of $300,000. Sigh.

These prototype LED lamps from Sony use panels of dye-sensitized solar cells to power their LEDs. The dye-sensitized cells are cheaper than conventional solar cells, and they can also be dyed in different colors and shades. I imagine that there’s a tradeoff in efficiency, but it might not matter to just keep some LEDs burning, and besides, it looks pretty and makes you feel green inside.

No info on price or release date, but I’m hoping we’ll get another look at these at CES in January.

I’m quite sure that nobody who purchases the JingPeng E1181 cellphone would ever even dream of using its spy camera for any sort of nefarious purpose. You may be able to totally detach the camera and its rechargeable battery from the phone and place it up to 30 feet away and have it stream video back over RF, but that doesn’t mean you should use it to… Well, I’m not going to give you any ideas. The rest of the phone involves a 3 inch touchscreen, an FM tuner, and just about everything else you’d anticipate from a mostly generic phone along with support for dual-band GSM networks and dual simcards. It’s $155.

Chopsticks are by far the strangest utensils that I’ve ever used. Personally, I just go with a spork if I can. I’ve used chopsticks many times over the years, but I’m convinced that I still haven’t mastered the art of using them. I do well enough to get the food in my mouth, but for those just learning, here is an interesting way to practice.

This Hiyokomame Chopstick Pracktice Set gives you everything you need to master the art of chopsticking (is that even a word?). You get a bowl, chopsticks, a guide and a pouch full of strange little plastic beans with chicken faces on them. I guess that you just spend hours on end picking up the tiny beans until you’ve mastered it. Honestly, for the $40 price tag, I’d superior be able to catch a fly with those tiny sticks.
